I read with interest about the different NF-104's @ Edwards AFB. When I was stationed there in the mid to late 60's, I worked on one regularly that was not mentioned. It was 60760. I was fortunate to get a good sharp chrome of it on Armed Forces Day, 1967, the only real time that I took slides in my 3 years there.
I was assigned to the 6515th Field Maint. Sq. in the Egress Shop. We took care of all the ejection seats & canopies on base with the exception of the SR-71/YF-12, U-2 and X-15. They had their own people for this. We had a pair of T-37s, about 10 T-33s, a dozen T-38's, 4 B-57s, one B-58, two B-52s (003 and 008, both mother ships for the X-15), TAC F-111s, 2 or 3 XC-142's, a TF-102, one F-106B, 3 F-4Cs. We also provided coverage for the Hawker-Sydney Kestrel, forerunner, I believe to the Harrier.
We had no F-105, but I worked on a transient one once.
Most of our work was "remove seat FOM" which meant For Other Maintenance. The F-104s were used by the test pilot school & they flew a lot. They are the only airplane that I really remember the ejection sequence and nomenclature that well. Some of them like the T-37s and B-57s, we hardly ever worked on at all.
Getting back to the NF-104, I certainly do remember that rocket motor in the tail & it shows up on my slide. If I ever get to a friends again who has a scanner, I'll try to share some from Eddies Air Patch.
