Does he still keep his P-51D in San Diego? And does it fly at present?

... were my questions in 2009. The same still applies. Does anyone have an update on this P51?

Love the patina on that aeroplane.

Anyone know the designation of those drop tanks? I have a set I need to find some parts for.

Thanks

Just got word that Karemaa still owns the plane, it is in San Diego, and hasn't flown in years.

He was a manager at General Dynamics in Kearney Mesa, probably long retired by now.

Bummer that it hasn't flown for a long time. A friend of mine once looked a plane that had not flown in a few years and remarked, "its dying, planes are meant to fly and when they don't its just sad". Having repeated this story I can only imagine the cost to maintain and insure a P-51 in flying condition.

The old General Dynamics plant in Kearny Mesa was torn down in the mid 90's.

Just been wondering about this particular airframe and Mr Karemaa, any updates on the status of P-51 Or him?
In a 2016 P-51 Mustang restorations update John Terrell listed it as a project. I thought it had flown a couple times before being put to bed? Not many pics out there of this particular one. Thanks.

Aadu Karemaa is a member here, and has posted a few times in the RetroAviation Maintenance forum with regard to acquiring P-51 parts.

He still owns it, it also hasn’t flown in decades (?) and he has no interest in selling it anytime soon.
