What are those "arms" coming off of the motor behind the prop?

I may be way off, but they look like a set-up to align gunsight with the wing guns ?
As opposed to bore-sighting ?

I noticed those also and I think they are put on during maintenance so someone in the cockpit will know not to turn the engine over.

Probably true given the card at the end which aligns with the machine guns.
They also did something similar with the later P-51Ds.

Otherwise my guess is laundry day.
