At the Oxford Airport this weekend, I had a little girl come up to the Corsair display. She asked if the R-2800 on our plane was water injected. :shock: She donated $5 to our jug and walked off with her siblings who looked rather disinterested. There is hope that our hard work wont be in vain to save and protect these defenders of freedom. Look at Warbird Kid for example. Chris has alot of heart and promotes warbird heritage like PT Barnum. I have a pair of boots older than him so yea there is hope for the next few generations IMHO.

Hopefully we can expose a couple of new generations to the F105 ! We're still working on it ! :axe: Just got to convince a few more folks in the right places ! :D

There were those who said these couldn't be done;

hey guys,

i have been restoring an ex 141st F-4D and F-84F. it's great to see that old be is getting some attention. we'd love to get a B back in new jersey as there are a few scattered around but the only one in state is at McGuire (and only some of us can get one base to see her). if you are putting her in 141st colors let me know, i have a number of close ups of tailflashes, squadron insignia, air-to-airs et al.

I don't suppose you have any photos of this actual Thud (57-5789) on active duty with the NJ ANG do you 12XU2A3X3? I've only been able to find one photo of her during her service with the NJ ANG in the book "Roll Call Thud" but the picture is very small...

Could someone please save these two birds? Isn't there any museum interested? Chris, this should get priority for Warbird Rescue!

I wholeheartedly agree it is a shame to see them sitting like this!

Are these owned by the USAFM and loaned to the TAM. I can do some talking around here but I wouldn't want it to be in vain and I need to know about ownership before I jump in headfirst. I agree though, they need to be saved for the aircraft and for Gary.

These aircraft are NOT under the control of NMUSAF. The people at the museum in Snyder saved these aircraft from scrapping and transported them out there. NMUSAF has been told to pi$$ off by those folks and threatened to call the Sherriff if any NMUSAF folks stepped on their property. NMUSAF employees told the museum folks that it was illegal for a civilian to own a jet fighter. There is NO law that is in place to support that statement. Only DoD policy. Once again, I say that these folks will do or say anything to further their agenda !

The folks in Snyder are preserving these airframes and will eventually get to restoring them.

Well said Rick - my thoughts exactly.

Just one minor thing - the Texas Air Museum that owns these birds is actually in Slaton near Lubbock.

Good to hear Rick! I hope they will button up the voodoo though. Sitting there with all those panels removed doesn't to her good! Plus, what if some panels get stolen?

oh, and hearing it's got no gobmint strings attached --> Collings foundation project? :finga: :drinkers:

Fouga,

If it makes you feel any better, the F-101 and F-105 are inside a security fence that you have to have a code to get into. Plus the area is patrolled by airport security. This will hopefully keep any parts from growing legs and walking away. It has so far.
