VMF-225 1947

Sun Mar 22, 2009 1:31 am

Here's a couple of pictures of VMF-225, based at Cherry Point, NC in 1947. The first picture is aboard CVE-112, USS Siboney. The next two are a couple of flight line shots.

Excellent stuff Dave. 8) Very unique insignia arrangement, and the only squadron I know of that painted a sharks mouth on a Corsair (on at least one anyway).

In case you're interested, Dan Friedkin's recently acquired F4U-4 flew with VMF-225 from November 1950 - May 1951. The squad was at Cherry Point from November thru January, then from February - May they took part in an Atlantic cruise aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt.

Gents, i'm the squadron historical officer for VMFA(AW)-225, an F/A_18D squadron thats the legacy squadron of VMF-225. I can't see any of the pictures in this thread, I think due to the age of the post, any chance any of you could re post or send them to me?

My uncle, Raymond Baxter Little flew in the VMF-225 just after the war. Do you have any information about him by chance?
