Gentlemen:

Please be informed that I'm currently investigating the possibility of writing a book about the F-51 Mustangs of the Air National Guard. Since the late 1970's, I've been maintaining an extensive database and photographic collection concerning this subject. I'll be happy to help anyway that I can....just drop me a line with your specific requests to my personal E-mail address: Dienst@hotmail.com.

In the mean time, I'm writing to request information and photographs about the Mustangs of the Air National Guard....I need to fill in a few holes in my coverage of this subject matter....Any assistance you can give to me will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

John L. Dienst

If you haven't already done so. You may want to spend some time exploring these Albums. You may find some good stuff. All the best.

FYI: If I read this all correctly

"N2871D in my records is 45-11367, which crashed and then parts were used in the rebuild of 44-63810 which became N63810 'Stump Jumper" 44-63810 was a ship of the 167th FS WV ANG where it already had the name "Stump Jumper". Martin / Swiss Mustangs"
http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/who/case/271

1972: Restored to flying condition, adopted 45-11367
1973: N63810, Robin Collord, flew as "Stump Jumper"
http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/su ... l/44-63810

So it seems 45-11367 (OKLA ANG 51367) eventually transformed into "Angels Playmate" ...

Where did they base these Mustangs while in Oklahoma, Tinker? I was up there last week.

Lynn, here's what I received from Gen. Stanley Newman, former commander of the OKANG....I will find out how long they were there and when they made the move to Will Rogers, which became their home....

"You’re right Steve. I certainly recognize these “Spam Cans.” 
They were factory fresh and lined up on the NG ramp at Norman, Oklahoma’s Max Westheimer Field. This was in late 1947 or early 1948 and before the USAF became a separate service—thus the “NG” vice the later “ANG.” And before they got their “war paint.”
SEVENTY YEARS AGO!! Time flies when you’re flying a low time fighter.  [I’m the “Last of the Mohicans” who piloted those 185th Fighter Squadron babies.]

Check Six, Old Stan"
