Kevin,

Has the Museum thought about acquiring an early Spartan mobile home? I know it's not entirely aviation related, but does have a definite connection to the WWII production efforts.

I'm actually thinking about trying to find a Spartan trailer--it's as close to a warbird as I'll ever get, and we'll be able to live in it when the airline business implodes. :?

No knowledge of C-4 or C-5 but the omission was glaring given that you included equally rare DT built aircraft.

Granted, the C-4 and the C-5 would be nice. None are known to exist, and only a small handful were constructed in the first place. They were a marketing and financial disaster for the company, and really didn't make it to any decent level of production, outside of the couple of hand-built examples. Do you know of an example(s) out there? If you do, PLEASE let me know. It would be really exciting to see!

I will edit my list accordingly!

One idea we've had in regards to a Spartan trailer is that it would be fun to find a shell that could be beautifully restored on the exterior, but wouldn't have an interior that we would ruin. We could then outfit it as a snack bar/gift shop that could be taken to area air shows and other such gatherings. It's just an idea we've kicked around, but at the moment is on the back burner.

You know there's a guy here near the airport who has three or four of them just sitting in a field? Also, there's a gutted shell on ebay right now for less than $1000.

Kevin,

The snack bar/gift shop idea is great! Only one warning---be prepared for people to carve their names, cuss words, and other "symbols" into the aluminum like they do on the skin of airliners around the boarding doors.

There are a fair number of Spartan trailers around the area that people are still using as homes, it speaks well of the construction methods.

I'm glad this deal worked out well!! My first deal with the Navy ended with a offer for a fuselage hulk of a
Fokker F-27 POS laying out at D-M.
Great news story but brother Bob may show up a day before Jeff and fly it for him!!

Remember if you try to trade to the Navy I'll be there to take it back!

I think we can safely say that this airplane, now that it's in Tulsa, won't ever be going anywhere (as long as I have anything to say about it). It is a huge piece of Tulsa history- no other Navy aircraft has any more "Tulsa" to it than this one. It's here to stay!

Tulsa,
Was in no way getting snippy. I could not do that to a machine that reminds me of another Navy machine and it too. only one is known to exist!!

Thought I'd provide an update... the NP-1 was reassembled this weekend! A few good folks and a little elbow grease managed by an experienced leader resulted in a pretty complete airplane. We've just got the gap straps left to install, and then a few other small tweaks before it's ready to rumble! Many thanks to the guys who came and spent some time putting her back together. Some of you might recognize a fellow WIX-er! She's slated to fly a few more times, probably sometime in July and then at an event on September 20. I'll post more details as they're available. Below are the photos... enjoy!

Good to see the airplane back in one piece, Kevin. Sorry I couldn't come and watch, but I didn't get back from Houston until yesterday. We await flight operations!

Jack- Just a wee bit familiar? I'm going to be interested to see that Staggerwing put together!

Scott- No sweat. Putting it back together required a lot less expertise than most of your projects with TR, 927 etc. Almost beneath you! When you're ready to come see it, give me a shout.
