I generally prefer paint schemes that are appropriate and somewhat 'accurate'. That is, military birds with military colors, etc.

But I have to say that every once in a while I see a civvie paint-job that's just too groovy... like this one...

Here are a couple more from the early days. The B25 pic is from 1980 so just before it was donated to the AF. The rest are from the mid 1970s. Anyone have any info on the black Hellcat with the red stripe?

Sorry for the cruddy quality of the last 4

It was still black when Ed Messick had it in the early 70's in San Antonio...

It's in Camarillo, CA, at the So. Cal. Wing of the CAF. I'll be inspecting it and several of their other birds, starting tomorrow. :)

I have been going thru my slide collection and have found about a dozen more photos of early and pre-CAF aircraft. Here is a example. If people want I can scan and post the rest.

John...please do, when you've got the time. I've been thoroughly enjoying your photos along with all the others!

Was looking for something else and stumbled upon this "older"
YouTube footage of the CAF (video quality isn't very good, but
it still makes for an interesting watch!).

Extracts lifted from the 'must see' Colonel Culpepper's Flying Circus.

Quote:
The BBC reporter was Ian Wooldridge, the programme was 'Colonel Culpeppers Flying Circus' and dates from around 1981. One of the principal 'Good Old Boys' being interviewed was Col Lefty Gardener.

A great BBC programme, well worth trying to find.
Released as a video by BBC Enterprises ltd.

Well worth tracking down a copy. Essential warbird viewing.
