Yes- I am going to be with the B-17 from Dayton to Lexington and back to Houston... Good Lord Willing. :D

I am wondering if they are going to have a hickie over my flash light and screw-driver style Dzus tool with carry-on.
It makes me nervous checking my only bag when there is a plane change.

SPANNER - got his bags almost packed

After 35 years, I finally managed to catch up to TR in Lexington. She was the first B-17 I ever saw in real life, at the Selfridge Airshow in 1977, when I was 13. Ironically, Fifi was less than 20 miles from my house at the time..more than 400 miles away! Great to meet Spanner and chat a bit. TR was looking great!

It was great meeting you Steve- as busy as I was I hope I wasn't too short.
We were having to oil from drums with a poorly built Chinese hand pump, which was both messy and tiring.

Lexington's Aviation Museum was a GREAT stop and we all enjoyed the beautiful countryside around there.

My camera broke in Dayton or I would post pictures of all the notable stuff.

This Saturday September 8th the Wing will have its monthly meeting and then starting at some point in the early afternoon we will be conducting Flight Experience Rides.

Come hear the rumble and the roar, smell the smoke and feel the excitement of a Wing Meeting...
Wait- make that a B-17 flight!

This is all happening at our home at David Wayne Hooks Airport (DHW) on the west side of the field off Boudreaux Road at TOMBALL JET CENTER.

There might very well be some PT-26 or Aeronca 7-BCM action going on, but not for the faint of heart.

Spanner,

Just finished this embroidery ... it's a big one of about 7" across ... may have to play with the colors a little.

The markings are those of the Princess Pat which my cousin flew his first combat mission on. VP X

TEXAS RAIDERS is going to be plodding around the skies of Austin this weekend.

Our former Maintenance Officer- Col. David Carr was lucky enough to snag Ashley the Fortrress Fixer for nuptial bliss!!!

And we will be flying some Historical Experience Flights on Sunday out of Bergstrom (former Air Force Base) before returning to David Wayne Hooks.

LOOK! in the air- it's Superman- it's a bird- NO---- It's a B-17--- TEXAS RAIDERS!

I would LOVE to get the invitation to Geneseo...
It would take a major commitment to be out on the road again, but we could scare up the volunteers I am certain.

Meanwhile- Here is a photo from the wedding of Ashley Allen- (Fortress Fixer in the pictures of yore) and David Carr- former GCW Maintenance Officer.

I forgot my regular headset and had to use the one out of the Fairchild.

I may make a habit out of forgetting it.

November 17, 2012 TEXAS RAIDERS will be flying over to the 1940 Air Terminal Museum on the West side of the airport.

There are going to be tours conducted and if enough folks take the plunge there will be rides available.

If you have never been to the 1940 ATM it is a beautiful Art Deco building that is still being restored. It has a lot of cool Commercial Aviation artifacts on display.

Come on down....

Winter Maintenance---

The Plan is to change Engine #3 with a fresh rebuilt engine from Aeromotive.
#3 has been going through oil like it's going out of style. It turns out some of that was because some studs on the cylinder that hold the shrouds on were stripped.
Even with the studs repaired it is time to see if we can get over the jinx of number 3 going through buckets of oil per flying hour.

In addition the Wing Staff is biting the bullet and has approved removing the comm. stack and upgrading it better radios and a real GPS. :supz:

I broke my camera so it will be a while before I can post pictures of the progress.

Good to meet some of the wing at ICAS - maybe we can see Texas Raider in person in Wendover this year!
