Greetings I thought that I had read somewhere recently that their was a orignal AVG P-40 that was found in a lake in China ! and their was plans to retrive it ! Can any one please comfirm this or put it to bed ! Wow if it is true that would awsome !

I think it was one of the P-40E models that was found. I thought it was recovered.

Hi all

I understand an Australian researcher is involved with this recovery. I have been advised that some wreckage may have already made it to Australia although this can not be confirmed. You refer to a 'P-40' so I take this to be a near complete aircraft, is this correct?

The information or rumour I am hearing is more of a wreck site that has been located and is currently being discussed with authorities to obtain either some or all of the parts left at the scene. I also have been told it is most likely a wreck from an original AVG squadron, ie pre 12/7/41.

lets hope so, if I hear any more I will update accordingly.

I remember that story too -- it was exciting for awhile -- but, the effort seems to have stalled before the plane was recovered (or even confirmed as the right wreck). There don't seem to be any new developments since around 2003. Perhaps somebody on WIX knows more.
