Any new news/updates on this rebuild?
No site update for over a year, just wondering how things are progressing :)

I've been wondering the very same thing. Obviously things are moving along with it. Can anyone from VWoC chime in?

Peace,

David M

the big update is that the wings have arrived from England, but the re-quire some more work before they can be installed. It looks like a few more years before this will be in the air.

Yes, that's right. The wings were jobbed-out in England, and came back to the hangar in Gatineau in November, but still needed work. (That's the short version.) They'll be done this winter. I don't know the status of the rest of the bits. The building for the Spitfire, in Comox, has been expanded, and there will an Unveiling on Jan 20, I believe.

Also, BTW, the wings for our Hurricane XII are complete and in the hangar.

Other news: there will be a series of our "Warbird U" Groundschools this winter, which are actual, hands-on, learn-with-the-pilots initial and recurrent training sessions. We'll teach the Harvard, Mustang, Spitfire, F-86 and Swordfish. These are very in-depth presentations supported by hundreds of slides, plus taught by a pilot who actually flies the aeroplane.

We'll have a Formation Camp on 10-12 May. Lots of aircraft flying in a total mission-oriented setting.

Then 4 of our Yellow Wings airplanes will tour the Maritimes: Tiger Moth, Finch, Cornell, Harvard.

The Stearman will go west all season (Alberta), and the Mustang for at least a month.

Our 2012 theme of "Warbirds of the Med" will have the Kittyhawk, Spitfire, and Hurricane -- and Swordfish --appearing at airshows within about 400 nm of Ottawa. (That's me!)

The Lysander will also take a tour to the Maritimes, we hope.

And the big end-of-season Air Show and Fly In is spread to 3 days, primarily Sept 15 and 16, and tied into the Battle of Britain flypasts with the CWH Lancaster.

Lots of fun!

Dave

Loving the Med idea, Dave. Bloody brilliant. Wish you guys had a Beaufighter (don't we all, LOL).

Recently, there has been an effort to increase the information about about maintenance happenings at Vintage Wings as there is a huge amount of interesting stuff in the hangar that never reaches the public. Since Early December there have been several detailed posts about some of the aircraft that can be found at:

vintagewingsofcanada.blogspot.com

So far it has been info on the biplanes(the little stuff) but hopefully over time there will be more information about all of the aircraft. There has been an effort to give detailed information with a few other interesting tidbits thrown in.
