Did the Chinese operate the Widows after they took them?

And do we know how many they actually took from us?

Fantastic stuff, and VERY well done on ID'ing the airframe... sometimes it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, eh?

What...No pictures of the interior??? Come on Brandon! I'm disappointed!

Just kidding BDK.

These shots are fabulous! You must know someone in high places over there to get behind the fence.

Many thanks, these pics and the new found identity are greatly appreciated.

Steve

Thanks BDK! We're getting ready to start shooting skin on our R/H Vert Stab and your numerous pics will be a great help. I was just looking at the microfilm this morning on the lower rudder hinges and the way the skin wraps around that area. Our L/H stab (our "chinese blueprint") is fairly intact but crunched pretty good in that corner, guess where the first piece of skin goes... Any way, thanks again for the pics. T.J.

When Tim Savage tells me that NOS T-6 horizontal stabilizers (never out in the weather) he bought had intergranular corrosion, and Mustang restorers are finding flying aircraft with rotten extrusions, I suspect that poor heat treating during the war is manifesting itself. I don't see that this aircraft is in very poor condition considering its years of outdoor exposure. Although the galvinized sheet steel canopy work and the same covering on the control surfaces seems hokey by today's standards, at least they have done something to keep the majority of the weather out. It sure would be nice to see this aircraft restored and flying (or maybe on static display in a proper museum but don't tell anyone I said that), but for now I think it is at least in a relatively safe environment. It really looks no worse than when I saw it last in 1999.

It is quite a trip for a Westerner to get there, but if not for the Chinese it would no longer exist. Where else can you see a P-61 outside of the US for about a dollar? :D

Wow what a pile of corrosion lurking under the paint. I wonder how long she has before major bits fail or fall.....

I don't even have one of those. Somebody should dial up Tony or Simon and and get that sh1t made. I want one too! :D

Good shots Brandon. One of these decades maybe we can show up in Bejing at the same time. Some Liter Snows and Tsing Tsaos, and just hanging out...
