Re: GRUMMAN, the people that made the planes .........27 DEC NEW

The rooms with "spikes" are anechoic chambers -- electronic "quiet rooms". The spikes are made from a special foam material which absorbs electromagnetic waves and thus eliminates electromagnetic (radiated) echos. Such rooms are commonly used to test antenna systems.

And yes, Grumman was a great place to work!

Again, totally AMAZING!!! These photos are unique and of great historical value! You can almost feel the good atmosphere at Grumman, from the photos.

I wish all aircraft manufacturers had such a dedicated photographic dept. as Grumman had! I believe Grumman also was one of very few aircraft manufacturers that had a dedicated "historical department" preserving the company's history. Most companies to day have slashed their "history office" to save money. Maybe the PR depts. do some of the job still.

I can't wait to see the Republic Aviation photos!

Thank you very, very much "Armyjunk2"!

Wow, some of the tooling is really impressive !

Quite interresting to have a look at the inner workings of a manufacturer such as Grumman. Incredible posting !!!

Keep it up !

Great images as always, AJ.

Take a good look at photos 3545, 3559, and 3560. The first bubble canopy airframes can be seen interspersed in the fixtures and on the production line with the razorbacks.

Hey AJ2, welcome back! Thanks for posting these memories. Hard to believe that both Republic and Grumman are gone; very sad.

Greatness!

The F-105 is one wild looking piece of machinery...love it!

The last A-10 shop photos with the Days to First Flight banner on the wall. I wonder if they made it? And would Lockheed or Boeing have the guts to put one up in their factories now days?? hehe

Why would Boeing? They've been delivering C-17s ahead of schedule for over 10 years. You also have to consider the added complexity in aircraft design over the past 30 some years.

Again, totally amazing! I love the photos of the RC-2 Rainbow! Republic made some of the hottest fighters! I also very much enjoy seeing photos of the people that made these amazing flying machines!

Thank you very much, 'ArmyJunk2"!!! We look very much forward to the next batch of Republic Aviation photos!
