Hello Armyjunk2

Thanks again for the posts. As for printing, I think that the 1024x??? is a little small. They probably fit most screens well, but I print 8x10s with at least a 2000x???. Some of those old photos deserve a much higher resolution as the detail is so rich in them. 8)

For instance #2141 (Cockpit), I would LOVE to see that at a MUCH higher resolution. I'll bet you could read ever single warning note and pasted up pilot notes/freqs. (Not all the photos deserve such attention, but some certainly do.)

Anyway, it's a GREAT look back into time.

Regards
Steve

Thanks guys I guess I should repost this....These photographs came from the Archives at Grumman Memorial Park Calverton, Long Island, New York and The Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City, Long Island. My friend Leo Polaski spent many long hours scanning these........a right click and save will give you photo info. I hope everyone enjoys these....

Wow, great pics...

I was impressed by the one with the stacked aircraft in the hangar ! It's not the first time I see something like this as I saw this before with GA aircraft (Piper Cubs and Cessna 140s).

Seems they found it was the best way to save space... Imagine an FBO stacking planes like this nowadays !?!

Thanks for posting these gems !

Once again, great pics.

2111 really gives me a sense of the danger of such tight quarters! Scary!

I love the stacked fuselage photo.

HELLCATS
I'm sorry these are out of sequence but it would take me forever to sort them, some later photographs will be before early photographs ..........and I don't believe any are duplicates, but they can sneak in sometimes

Pix 2214, is that a launch out the side of the carrier from the hangar deck?

Sun Aug 17, 2008 10:39 pm

WOW, I didn't know they did that. the photo title says "catapultfrhangerlittleu" so maybe that is whats going on. Someone here will know for sure......

Yup, go to photo 2207 and you see the crew preparing for the hangar deck cat shot, and in 2214 they're going out the other side.

Another favorite of mine is 2212 with the men working in the foreground and some kind of performance going on in the background. Looks like the band is playing vigorously!

Great stuff!
