Wow ! Awesome indeed. First time I ever see packed a/cs like that. Very instructional for me.

Also, pic #72 must be post war because it shows four 1948 C-140s in the crate. For once, this is in my area of expertise ! hehehe.

Paint scheme and air intake grills are unmistakable. Furthermore, there was no 120-140 model before 1946, the year they were introduced.

Kind of cool to see them in this set ! Wonder where they were destined to...

There are some nice prototype images for the modelers out there to create a diorama of the crating/shipping process!

Indeed, an outstanding selection of very rare photos. I have heard about Dade for 65 years but I have never ever seen this many high quality photos of their operation. One question if anyone knows; Did Dade have an operation in Los Angeles? California doesn't show on the map in photo 65 but it would seem to me that it would have been practical to crate new A-20s and P-38s in LA and ship them from the LA harbor instead of flying the planes all the way to NY to be disassembled. Incidentally a Google search turned up a NYT story that says that Dade shipped 33,000 planes overseas.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. My name is Bill Barto and I was employed by Grumman for twenty years. One of my tasks there towards the end of my career was as Assistant Corporate Historian. I am now associated with Grumman Memorial Park, Cradle of Aviation and American Airpower Museum.

My question goes to "armyjunk2" as to the images he has posted. Very commendable to credit where he obtained the images, but as Historian for Grumman Memorial Park, I am at a loss to figure out what images he got from GMP. We don't have an archives, unless another Board member provided them.

In any event all the images posted, and I mean right up to the Dade facility are absolutely amazing. (One of the Dade Brothers, George, is one of the founders of the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City.)

hi Merlin, what a nice Museum and very pretty country around it, we went to Portsmouth to visit Fort Nelson and on to London for the IWM. Maybe next time
