I’ve decided to put these last Grumman photographs of the factory and the folks that worked there building the aircraft. Grumman referred to the buildings as Plants 1-207 or so. I will use that designation, as usual I know very little about this subject so feel free to correct anything and everything. I will start with Baldwin and the original shop. At this point we have about 7000 photos left that I haven’t posted, lots of the photos are people working and making parts, usually you can’t tell what the part is or what its for. I think we still have some Republic photographs to post after these. . Remember a right-click and save will give you some info on the photograph. I hope you all enjoy these..

Thanks so much for these photos! I have always found the aircraft companies around Long Island Sound in the 30s and 40s interesting. With Grumman, Republic, and Chance Vought in the area there was allot of history there.

Pictures 2531 and 2532 appear to be tube masters. 3D tube bends like this were very hard to define on paper drawings, so you had to make a master part, store and control it, and then use that to make more tubes. Brings back bad memories of a terrible few months early in my engineering career, sorting out tube masters at a company that had maybe 1% of what Grumman must have had. I get the shivers just looking at those photos.

Simply wonderful images - thank you very much for continuing on with this thread.

2530 is named as A-6A - these appear to be F-14 forward fuselage sections since they are tandem seated vs. the side by side of the A-6.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Thanks again for the new set of images - fascinating. 2563 looks to have an NACA F-51 (or P-51 if you prefer) in the hangar - possibly a Langley based bird? I'm guessing that by the wing stripes...

2567 looks to be E-2 Hawkeye model bits and pieces while 2568 is an A-6/EA-6A model with bits and pieces.

Thanks! Mark
