Here are some Lindbergh pictures, some are real and some are the replica plane, a right click and save will show title. Are these too big for the screen? I opened a new photobucket account for airplanes and it seems the pictures are bigger than before .....

WOW! Being from Long Island I am loving this series. The first few Lindberg pics are what I imagine are from the 30th anniv in 1957. Roosevelt Field closed in 1951 and the Roosevelt Field mall was completed by 1955. It's pretty amazing that they actually took off from the mall! I recognize the sign from the old Grand Union supermarket chain we used to have, and WGSM 740am sign on the truck in the background.

The property is even more developed today. The Meadow Brook Parkway also came thru in the late 50's and bisected what was the airfield proper.

Most of these pictures are from Long Island when I start the Republic pictures I might rename the thread "Long Island Aviation". I have Islip, Roosevelt, Nassau Blvd and Mitchel Field pictures so I guess a new title will be appropriate

Thanks for more terrific pictures. The Lindberg pictures were unexpected, but quite interesting. If anyone is really interested in that amazing person, the book "The Wartime Journals of Charles A. Lindberg" is an enlightening and facinating read.I found it as a book in the Bend,OR. Library in 1983 and read it at that time.I wanted to read it again, but it was removed from the library long ago.I found and bought a copy through Amazon a couple of months ago and find it even more interesting the second time around.Lindberg kept a semi-daily journal between November 1937 and June 1945.The book was published in 1970 and,as of yesterday, there were 3 copies available on Amazon (and presumably from other sources) for a reasonable price. His problems with the Press and with FDR are frequent topics and there's detailed coverage of his unofficial combat missions in F4U's and P-38's in the Pacific Theater.

Great shots of the Spirit Of St. Louis replica. They look like one of the replicas used in the Jimmy Stewart movie made at that time...

armyjunk, do you happen to have that classic picture of the prototype Bearcat that was testing the exploding wingtips and only one worked? I was just explaining that story to some folks the other day when Dave Morss brought Provinence's new Bearcat through Midland.

I'll be dumb and ask what are these used for? I know they go on airplanes but not how they are used...
