What about the Tilamook bird? Is it not being flown at all anymore? Are any of Mr. Erickson's bird flown at all anymore?

From what I understand, not much of anything is being flown anymore. I think Jack can expand on this better than myself, as he is up in that part of the world and knows a little more about the happenings.

To the paint shop!

And the crew that made it happen! 6 months total overhaul of all systems and back to flying and as far as we know the only P-38 flying with true operating turbos. What a sound!

Congrats Warhawks1,
As I understood it Glacier Girl has the working turbos as well.

Congradulations Erik!! Job well done, what paint shop are you using, can we get a sneek peek at the scheme?

Completed!

Beautiful!

Didn't Lefty's fork tail have turbos way back when?

I seem to remember that awesome sound when he'd taxi in after his routines.

I think the 38' has to be steered on the ground with throttle and brake, since it has no steerable nosewheel(?)

He used to love to taxi fast, and rev up each engine seemingly more aggressive than others I've ever witnessed, and to me it was part of the show!

I noticed Steve doin' a bit of it at the last Chino show, but NOT the same since they said the turbos were not active at that time.

Nice shots guys!

Congrats, guys - awesome achievement, and a lot of hard work.

As an artist, there's only ONE killer-looking scheme for a P-38:

Nope, no other P-38 has its turbos functional, although of course they are there and the exhaust flows out through them. Because of this Glacier Girl was limited to flying no higher than I believe 10,000 ft efficiently, if need be, when taking part in the Bolero II journey.

This is just some more great news Erik and not only will the sight be one to be seen but the sound will be one to be heard! :D

BTW, Wade, I love your paintings and this example is awesome as well! This coming from another aviation artist, though I just stick with pencil and or charcoal.

What paint scheme paint scheme is going on this one again? Will she be at KOSH? It looks amazing.

It's supposed to be at OSH, and the scheme is called "Ruff Stuff". It was on a different thread I think (the name, still no picture).

Erik, who is flying in your air-to-air shot?

Erik,

That air to air shot is great to see! Boy, two years in a row of having a fresh restoration at Oshkosh, you guys are going to spoil us. What's on the agenda for next year, a Helldiver?

Tell Paul Bennett "Hello" from Steve over at Rice Lake for me.

Author Susedik appears to write local histories of Chippewa County, Wisconsin. Anybody know if Major Ruff is a fellow cheesehead? If so, we'd better throw a few more brats on the grill for the WIX picnic.
