Just saw a collision being reported with a T-Mk.20 and a Cessna 210 in the San Francisco Bay area

Sea fury allegedly landed

210 went down?

On KTVU channel 2 (Bay area)

It was Dreadnought. The 210 was also registered to the Sanders' but no word on who was on board. Prayers to all involved.

Were both planes on a photo flight?

I have a question regarding the post mid-air flight. Isn't the correct course of action to find the nearest airport to land and assess the damage?

If the plane is flyable, and you can see the damage is not serious, fly it home, it is easier to fix at your home base.

!!!???
"...easier to fix at your home base."

Fix? How about landing safely? This dude passed like 4 airports on the way...how about the damage you can't see? Not to mention, what about the dude who just bought the farm?

Sure, there are malfunctions you'll encounter in flight that you can make it home on...I doubt the procedure for a mid air reads "Fly it home, it's easier to fix at your home base".

The Sea Fury is a stout plane remember it was built to get shot to pieces and still come home, kinda like the sky raider that lost half of its wing in a collision with a P-51 at Duxford and still landed safely.

We don't know what the pilot was thinking, or what information he was operating on. Once we have more details, I think it might be more appropriate to speculate.

You fix a Cessna with a tack hammer, you fix a warbird with a sledgehammer, when the Planes of Fame Hellcat had a midair with a cessna, it didn't do that much damage to the Hellcat.

Here is a example of the difference, when I was working on Beech F-33s, if they hit a pigeon, it would punch a hole into the wing, I hit a duck in the T-6, I had blood stains and feathers to clean off.

And a 727 has crashed after contact with a 172. This is pointless until you know what kind of contact they had.
