Congrats, guys - awesome achievement, and a lot of hard work.

As an artist, there's only ONE killer-looking scheme for a P-38:

Um...er.... Wade? Ruff Stuff is an OD/Gray 80th Headhunter bird. THAT is the only killer looking scheme on a 38 :) Oh and it's a small intake 38 too. Can't beat those!

Might look good in the background of Corky Jr too just for fun.

Author Susedik appears to write local histories of Chippewa County, Wisconsin. Anybody know if Major Ruff is a fellow cheesehead? If so, we'd better throw a few more brats on the grill for the WIX picnic.

Norb Ruff is from Wisconsin.

Now I'm confuse-ed (as Curly would say). I'm referring to which paint job the recently refurbished plane in THIS thread will be carrying (see copied picture below). I've looked at the photos backerds and fowerds, and it don't look like no F-model to me ... or are they simply "adapting" the F-model scheme to this plane?

We are well aware of the fact that our airplane is not the exact model Norb flew, but he is very good friend of ours and we wanted to honor him by using his paint scheme. This airplane is not a dead stock restoration, but a very safe, quality restoration with out the exact shade of primer and inspection markings through out. I think when most see it they will still be very impressed, especially if they saw what we started with and in how many days it was accomplished. 200 days! Feb-July 2007

Good job!

Most definitely!

I know sometimes posts on the 'net can be misconstrued into a 'slam', when they aren't meant to be. My "F-model paint job" comment above was made because I saw your images, submitted my own "suggestion" (459th FS Twin-Tailed Dragons), and all of a sudden everybody's talking F-model paint jobs like it was a given - what am I missing, wondered I.

Thanks for clearing things up.

Cheers!
Wade

What about the Tilamook bird? Is it not being flown at all anymore? Are any of Mr. Erickson's bird flown at all anymore?

When I was at Tillamook in December 2006 to take pictures of their new Oscar, I asked when the last time was that any of the warbirds owned by Jack Erickson had flown. I was told it was the P-47D in Fall 2003 when it was flown over from Idaho by John Muszala from his Pacific Fighters restoration shop. So it's been quite awhile since the Lightning or any of the other warbirds there have flown, unless of course something has flown within the past 6 months. As you probably know the P-47D was purchased recently by Provenance Fighter Sales and then sold to Rod Lewis. My understanding is that it was flown to California from Oregon in early 2007.

That is a beauty of a P-38, and the topic of this thread is a sweet one as well.

whats the history on that one. What ever happened to john silbermans. I think it was a modified F-5. I remember when Jaybo Hinub flew it to a few of the shows. He let me climb up and look in.

Magnificent work! Primer and ALL!

MUDGE wouldn't it be great if they got ALL the P38s together and gave us low time GA pilots MEL training in them?
MEL=Multi-Engine Land

So who thinks Jack Croul's P-38 should get a new paint job? .... I love the invasion stripes, but I also love olive drab on a P-38. There's 4 that I know of that are olive drab right now. (you know the 4th?)

I'd love Jack's to have both, then we could have the 4 flyable come back to Chino next year. (Glacier Girl, 23 Skidoo, Ruff Stuff, and Jack's in Olive drab and invasion stripes)

Olive drab or scrap it ... lolol ... oops, did I say that ....

Mark the Wuss ... lolol ... (Mudge the puss) ... lolol, kidding Mudge, just gettin you back ....
