It's a mock up of the never built Allison powered P-47A.

#23 doesn't quite look factory fresh. Is there a story there?

A right Click and save will give you what little Info I have on each photograph.
Number 23 says P-47D Borrowed from the Smithsonian, It is the same plane as in photograph 24. Thanks for noticing, I learn new things here all the time....Next question where is that plane now??? Smithsonian?

But I have a MAC and I only get the .jpg title of the pic after I have downloaded it.

Now to a little quiz: in photo #41, does anyone see anything odd, and do you know what happened to it?

Scott

You can barely make it out in pic #38 about 2/3s down the row of P-47s on R/h side. It appears that it is in the middle of RAF fuselages with a white band.
The antenna doesn't line up with the others.

Thanks,
Love these pics as I learn things as well.
I like to see how they built and used the fixtures and jigs.
I get to rebuild things and it helps to figure out what they did.
Of course Republic overbuilt their A/C and probably the tooling as well.
I have some Goodyear XF2G and other British and test Corsair pics to scan some day. Most are official GY photos.

Any Stinson pics from Roosevelt field?

Tue Mar 18, 2008 2:10 pm

There used to be a big Stinson dealer on the field there. I would love to see some pictures from there if you have any.

Back on page 30 pics # 20 and 21. #21 Is 7AAF 318FG 73SQ "Bar Flies" most likely on Saipan possibly Tinian. They had P47Ns on IE Shima. Is pic #20 318th FG on Saipan? The squadron code bands are correct. When I right click I have "save as" but no "save" and my broozer opens "my pics" to save to so I don't see any captions. GREAT PICS!! Hugh

HMFischer,
Do you have a MAC? I've been told right-click and save doesn't work with MACS....

The title for photograph 20 on page 30 is "P-47D Maintenance in field"
