Anyone here know if Bob Hoover will be book signing at the show Saturday? I believe I saw him there last year signing books. A European WIX member has kindly asked if I could acquire a signed book for her. The answer is 'of course' if he is there signing.

I was at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation yesterday (nice museum, BTW). Based on what I was told, both P-47's are still scheduled for Chino.

Is a WIX gathering planned for Sunday? I've got a wedding to go to on Saturday.

Westpac posted yesterday about getting their B-25 and P-47 ready for the show/flying this week.

I'll be getting out there tomorrow night, and will be at Chino all day Friday and Saturday (some other places to go to in the days prior).

Bring the sunscreen, it's gonna be HOT! 98F on Friday, 95F on Saturday- but down to 85F on Sunday. Right now 88F and blowing dust at 23 MPH.

From the pictures it looks like 4 Thunderbolts in attendance, POF, Snafu, Hun Hunter, and Klaars 78th FG. Yanks has their D model on static display. The POF bird is sporting a new paint scheme.

That's right, 4 jugs on the hot ramp and one static. One Spit. Hotter than heck. Good crowd. Maybe a little too good. By 8:15 it was impossible to get a front row spot for your chair. Long lines for food and cold drinks, some vendors running out. The Boy Scouts with the water wagons lost a lot of revenue by not being there during the heat of the day.

Some things we have come to expect were missing. Nothing from Lewis. Croul sat this one out. Slattery's Tigercat is here, very nice. Regretted that the silver P-40B and the POF D4Y Judy are not to be seen, even on static. Sanders bailed, understandably.

Too many diagonal passes that are close to the crowd at only one corner. Also no place to sit where you can see the birds taxi unobstructed by parked aircraft.

Overall a good show but not one for the annals.

August

It actually wasn’t as hot as I was expecting (dreading). There was a cool breeze coming from the West that kicked in late in the morning. It made the day not feel as hot as it actually was.

There was a good mix of aircraft, and POF kept the show moving. There were always planes in the air. Many of the flights flew a figure eight pattern, which we really liked since you got to see the planes from a lot of different angles.

The Horsemen were amazing, as always. Who needs the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds when you have these guys! The three F-86s are an excellent addition to their repertoire.

This is only the second time I have seen an F-22 fly. This time I knew to bring ear plugs. Very impressive airplane when your ears aren’t bleeding.

Tomorrow is supposed to be several degrees cooler. If you were thinking about going, I would recommend you do.

Here's my small (amateur attempt) contribution to this thread. I figure there will plenty of others who will be posting their photos all kinds of stuff that was at the show, so I concentrated my simple Iphone photo taking on one particular airplane. Since the P-47 was sort of a warbird in the spotlight, I decided to saturate (as best I could) the Yanks Air Museum's static P-47 sitting out on the ramp. Neat look airplane all bare naked like that. Here ya go.

So the intent was to make sure I didn't miss a rivet ...
(not responsible for any crappy photo angles or crappy photos in general, or anyone strange looking that I caught in a shot)

And here's a few I just closed my eyes and shot in all directions. Again I'm quite sure others will be posting much better stuff.
I guess my take on the show in general, is if you don't dissect it too much it was a great time and well worth the entry fee.

These two dudes below looked to be lost and confused so I felt the need to take a picture of them sitting in Flo's diner.
Actually most of you probably already know these two characters on WIX (Chris and Zack). I had a wonderful time having lunch with these guys and listening to their stories and experiences. Class acts all the way and two guys that are very instrumental in keeping the Warbird flame bright. The Warbird community is very lucky to have fellows such as these two involved so deeply in all the right things that matter in keeping that flame bright. Bravo you two.

It was very much my pleasure to meet you guys in person and I wish you a safe trip home.

Mark

It was a blast! Mark Allen, thank you for the kind words. It was great to get to hang out with you. I really enjoyed our time together. Thanks also for a super cool lunch at Flo's. It was great to unwind after the hot. Keep in mind when we left Oshkosh it was 35. Arrived in Chino it was 98. Mark thanks also for what you do to keep the memories of our veterans alive!

Thanks also to Chris Triangle P. We found some good shade and enjoyed the show and talking warbirds. I had a blast. Chris I owe you one as well. Both of you guys need to visit us in Oshkosh! It was great getting to meet WIXers in person.

Great to meet Chuck, Mark, Roger, and so many others in person. Thanks for the warm welcome!
