This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

We are doing the gear swing today.
My son was making motor noises while moving the gear handle.
"Hey Karl, I told you it says Goodyear."

You made the comment about torqueing the prop using a 5' bar and a 180 lb person. Does your manuals actually say this? The reason why I ask is that is just about exactly what the manuals we have on our Lockheed Lodestar say. If I'm not mistaken, our manuals don't say anything about an actual torque number, just that you use a 5' bar with a 180 lb man hang on it.[/quote]

Those are standard installation procedures for a Ham Std 23 or 24D50.
Instructions quoted are from the P-51 E and M Manual.

Thats neat. I wonder how many other aircraft manuals from WWII have similar instructions.
Sat May 24, 2008 11:41 pm
BT-13 manual is similar.
I think that it was probably "standard" on any aircraft in the military during WWII with only a few exceptions as most of the maintenance had to be done in pretty austere conditions and it was easier to make just the prop socket and have them put a big bar through it than try to manufacture a lot of specialty torque wrenches able to handle the job.
