Great video Dave, the best 30 mins I've spent for a while. I know you put a lot of effort into the paint scheme too, and I have to say it looks fantastic and distinctive.

Regards BritHarvard's comments about the Shuttleworth SeaHurri, it's worth pointing out that in addition to the arrestor hook the spar in the horizontal stab is basically a girder. She sat outside on grass for a number of years and the tailplane spar was beyond salvation when they came to restore her in the 90's, which was in the days before Hawker style rolled components could be manufactured again. Cranfield University assisted in the design of a replacement spar that's basically an I-beam, and somewhat heavier than the original.

Great to have two Hurri pilots on one WIX thread!

Thanks for your post, BritDriver. Good to read your description of the loop. When I flew our Mk IV it was mostly in formations, not solo display, so my aerobatic flying in it was limited.

There have been 3 Hurris flying here in Canada in recent decades. I've flown two of them, and Joe C, who took over from me after these flights, has flown all three. They were all light in the tail when airborne, not heavy, but of course none of them were Sea Hurricanes. They are difficult to 3-point with power-off and full-flap. You run out of elevator authority. Which is not in the books...

Ours tracks straight on the ground. No habit of dirty-darts so far, and Gatineau is a very crosswindy place. But our IV was a bit quirky at times. (Past tense now, of course.) Oddly, it was worst when taking off with a couple of knots of tailwind -- it tended to head for the grass in that situation.

I love when pilots compare notes for all to see in a thread like this.
