Thank you, Mark, for the enlargement :drink3: - passed it along to Scott. The plane got a civil registration (N4960V) but apparently never flew with it; it ended up being scrapped at the airport.

Mark-- Thank you for the shots of the aircraft at the Corvallis airport.

I have read about a B-17 being here at the airport, but this is the first shot that I have seen of it. Likewise, the derelict P-51 shot also make me say "WOW!" out loud too. Great stuff.

The white building where the B-17 sits next to no longer exists, it later turned into a chrome shop called "United Chrome Products" and was painted a barn red, but was torn down as an EPA contaminated site in the late 80s. The beautiful main hanger is still here and still being used.

BTW, in the 80s there was the remains of a Ryan PT-22 fuselage behind one of the buildings used to house Civil Defense supplies. That fuselage, and the related buildings are also now long gone too.

The Northwest pilot working on his P-51 is most likely M. W. "Lee" Fairbrother. He worked for Northwest and owned numerous warbirds including Spitfire 24 N7929A. He also raced this P-51D in Cleveland after Ortman had sold it. I have seen a photo of it in the black colors noted here parked outside his home.

I think it's Earl Ortman. He flew NX65453 to third place in the 1946 Thompson Trophy Race.

Here's another interesting photo.

States: "B-25 Mitchell in Europe c 1960".

Looks more like a PBJ
