Bob Ready (Restorer of My Gal Sal) Gone West

Thu Mar 19, 2015 7:37 pm

I got word today that Bob Ready of Cincinnati has passed. Bob was the motive force behind the restoration of the B-17 My Gal Sal which was recovered from Greenland and was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Ultimate Sacrifice Museum. Unfortunately, the closing of Blue Ash airport near Cincinnati foiled those plans. The airplane is now on display at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.

Bob was a very nice man who gave me a personal tour of Sal when it was at Blue Ash.

In addition to Sal, at one time or another, Bob owned a Corsair, a B-25, a T-34, and (I believe) an AT-6.

I only met him once, but Mr. Ready was a very nice guy. We were at a model show in Cincy back in '05, and the club sponsoring the event arranged a tour of My Gal Sal. As it turned out, my wife and I were the only ones who showed up, but Mr. Ready still spent a good hour showing us around the hangar and telling us all about the artifacts, and let me photograph every nook and cranny of Sal (still disassembled at the time.) It's too bad he was never able to realize his vision for a museum..he had even had mannequins made in the likenesses of Sal's crew for the proposed diorama.

Blue skies, Mr. Ready! :drink3:
