New London, N.H. — Francis R. White, 91 of New London and Enfield N.H., died peacefully at the New London Hospital on Friday, July 11, 2014, after a short illness.

Francis was born in Lebanon, N.H. on Sept. 6, 1924, the son of Raymond (Doc) White and Florence (LaCourse) White. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1939, attended Williams College in Amherst, Mass. and graduated as Ensign from the Navy Flight Training School in Pensacola, Fla. He later became a decorated Navy pilot in WWII serving on the U.S.S. Essex in the Pacific. After his service in the Navy, he returned home and married Kathryn (Kay) Cleary in 1945.

Mr. White, along with his wife Kay owned and operated Churchs Childrens Clothes in Hanover, N.H. for 43 years. Francis enjoyed spending his summers at the family cottage on Mascoma Lake and at his winter home in Vero Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Rector of White River Jct., Vt. Francis is survived by his four children, Dan White (Cindy) of New London, N.H., Kathy Moseley (Pete) of Lebanon, Cindy Dutille (Jim) of Sunapee, N.H. and Peter White (Linda) of Lebanon; as well as eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Francis is also survived by his sister, Luraine Leddy, of Manchester N.H.

There will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held in Enfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to: Social Services at New London Hospital, 273 County Rd. New London, N.H. 03257.

The Chadwick Funeral Home of New London is assisting the family with arrangements.
