Hello,
I just got approved through Scott so thought I'd go ahead and jump in and introduce myself. I'm Andrew White (Whitey) out of Southern Maryland, by way of Boston Mass. I'm currently Active duty Navy and Stationed at NAS Patuxent River. I fly as a P-3 Orion Flight Engineer and have been with P-3s for just about 6 years. Prior to Pax I flew with VP-26 out of NAS Brunswick Maine where I did most of my flying over in the middle East, Iraq and Africa. Other Navy platforms include the E-6A/B TACAMO aircraft (B707) as an aircrewman and I turned wrenches and bummed rides on E-2 Hawkeyes and C-2 Greyhounds (CODs). Somewhere in the middle I was out of the service and worked as an A&P mech on various types but mainly heavies (DC-10s, A300s, 747, 727...man, what I'd give to just get my hands on a Cessena 150!)
I've just always loved aircraft and aviation with WWII aircraft at the top of the list. As a kid growing up in Boston you didn't see many WWII aircraft around...until the Collings Foundation started operating their B-17 and B-24 back in the mid 80s. I recall a fledgling group sprouting up back then called the "New England Escadrille" and each September they put on a great Warbird airshow up at the Manchester NH airport. It was at those shows that I saw my first B-17, Hurricane, and even a MiG-15 and F9F Panther (What ever happened to Alan Wolk's Panther?) After those shows, while in high school my dad and I would travel up to Canada for the CWH show each year and down to Titusville FL for the Valiant air Command show...those were good times!
I've never really gotten my hands dirty on any Warbirds but it is something I would love to get into as my Active duty Navy days come to an end...though some would make the argument that the mighty P-3 is very much the "vintage" aircraft/warbird!
Happy to be aboard and look forward to learning what is going on in the current "Warbird" world.

Welcome aboard, my father was a P-3 flight engineer with VQ-1 out of Moffett Field among other NAS's. Hopefully the software upgrade won't scare you off :D
