Here it is with the "pool" built up! It will not be a really deep pour but we'll see how it goes. I have never done anything like it before so I am hoping for the best!

Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time between pours for it to cure. Air bubbles can pop up long after you think it's cured. Looking good.

So how did this come out?

These are not the best shots and I will need to get a few more of the model in the museum setting - BUT - here it is.

Again, lessons learned: 1) do not use styrene as a base - the clay warped it as it dried 2) improve my skill with heating / warping plastic 3) secure the model down better - as the water dried it moved the model a little 3) use a "normal" scale - this was inexpensive which was nice to learn on but the details like decals, cockpit, life rafts, navigator/bombardier station and interior details are impossible to get - it would have been nice to be able to show more of the wreckage. 4) spend a TON of time on making the edges perfectly smooth so when you build the retaining walls and pour the resin there is not much if any need to seal the edges. I had to do a lot of this and it made the edge view HORRIBLE. ugh. 5) spend the $$ on the "deep pour" resin - I made about 4 pours with the Woodland scenics resin (which is great) but it would have been better to do ONE pour and be done.

Lastly - it was interesting to learn about this actual crash and sad to learn of the one fatality - (drowning in 18 inches of water in the middle of the desert). :drink3: to the "greatest" generation

Hope you enjoy! Tom P.

I think your model adds a great visual to the story, much better than a painting would.

I agree, a painting is one dimensional per se, the diorama adds visual depth to the story.......

Your work is amazing. I the way that you distressed the model to show the damage is stunning!
